Westfarms Mall is a two level, 1.3 million square foot upscale shopping mall located astride the borders of Farmington, and West Hartford, Connecticut. It opened in 1974 and was expanded twice, first in 1982 with the opening of Lord & Taylor. It was expanded more substantially again in 1996 with the addition of Connecticut's first Nordstrom location and around 20 additional shops.
This mall includes many up-market stores and restaurants such as Hollister, abercrombie, Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters, Game Stop, FYE, Forever 21, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Field of Dreams, Apple Store, Pottery Barn, as well as a Rainforest Cafe. The mall includes four anchor stores, Macy's (two locations), J.C. Penney, Nordstrom, and Lord & Taylor.
Two of Westfarms' original anchor stores, G. Fox & Co. and Sage-Allen, were the dominant local department store chains for generations. The G.Fox store converted to its sister Filene's division in 1993 and after Sage-Allen's demise, its space became the Filene's Men's & Home store in 1995. Both locations are now rebranded as Macy's.From its grand opening in 1974 until 2002, the mall's center court featured lavish waterfall-style fountains and a small stage area, taking up much of the center court area. A 2002 renovation removed all of the water display and gave the space a more open look.
