The Streets at Southpoint and Main Street is a super-regional shopping mall located in south Durham, North Carolina, just off I-40 and Fayetteville Road. This mall boasts the state's first Nordstrom department store, as well as fellow anchors Hudson-Belk, Macy's (formerly Hecht's), J.C. Penney and Sears. This mall was also the first in the state to incorporate an outdoor village concept when it opened in 2002, better known as "Main Street." This section includes a Barnes & Noble, Pottery Barn, an Apple Store, a 16-screen cinema operated by Consolidated Theatres, and a number of restaurants such as Maggiano's Little Italy, Firebirds Rocky Mountain Grill, The Cheesecake Factory, and California Pizza Kitchen.
The opening of this new mall, however, led to the demise of Durham's older South Square Mall. Once The Streets at Southpoint opened, Belk and J.C. Penney closed their locations at South Square, as did a number of other tenants. Belk eventually closed its other locations in the Durham area at Northgate Mall and University Mall in Chapel Hill as well.
The road that encircles most of the parking lot is known as Southpoint Boulevard. There are multiple entrances into the mall complex from Renaissance Parkway and Fayetteville Street.
